RESPECT is growing everyday, everywhere!
RESPECT Taiwan
RESPECT Taiwan is an affiliate of RESPECT Inc. We work in conjunction with other RESPECT affiliates around the world as well as other organizations such as I*EARN to undertake RESPECT & Refugees Project.
Since early February 2003, with constant assistance and information provided by RESPECT Inc. international coordinator, Mr. Marc Schaeffer, we have implemented the first step to raise awareness of refugee issues among Taiwanese youth and adults.
On March 3, we launched RESPECT & Refugees Project, a long-term web-based course, on AJET Digital School's platform that is supported by the National Sun-Yat Sen University in Taiwan.
As of 1 April, 2003, five high schools in Taiwan are involved in RESPECT & Refugees Project. They include: Kaohsiung Municipal Kao Chung Junior High School, Kaohsiung Municipal Home Economics & Commerce Vocational High School, Kaohsiung Municipal Girls' Senior High School, Affiliated Senior High School of National Kaohsiung Normal University and National Fenghsin Senior High School.
Presently, more than 10 volunteer teachers and 284 students in Taiwan participate in a snail-mail pen-pal letters exchange with refugee students (224 in Guinea, 20 in Somalia and 40 in Uganda).
On April 26, 2003, we will have our first fund-raising activity at Kaohsiung Municipal San-min Home Economics & Commerce Vocational High School's 16th anniversary party.
In the future, we hope to promote the project to all parts of Taiwan and help refugee students gain access to the internet.
