Youth Transforming Conflict Training

April 18th to 29th 2004, thirty-eight participants took part in the second phase of the training course Youth Transforming Conflict. The participants represented eighteen countries, mostly from West Africa.

The event was organised by the United Network of Young Peacebuilders and Network University in Netherlands. The programme consists of training in conflict transformation, project management, and campaigning.

Participants especially enjoyed a dialogue with Dr. Crane, Prosecutor of the UN Special Court to Sierra Leone, field visits and intercultural evenings. I participated in the seminar and represented RESPECT Nigeria and Respect International. During the event I presented RESPECT International's goals, achievements, and programmes.

During my short stay in Sierra Leone I met with members and friends of RESPECT, including members of iEARN Sierra Leone, country coordinators Slyester Young (Respect-Liberia), Alex Columbus (Sierra Leone), Mr. Bangura, Andrew Green, and Tom. We used the opportunity to discuss RESPECT issues, including the creation of the RESPECT Mano River Union.
