An Alliance To Connect Refugees With The World

RESPECT International and One World Youth Project have agreed to a partnership working in the Buduburam Refugee Camp School in Ghana.

Both organizations are involved in youth affairs and will help refugee youth at the camp build a stronger partnership with youth communities around the globe through a variety of youth action and exchange programmes. They will work closely to enhance cultural understanding, leadership training, and service learning by linking middle and high school refugee students with their non-refugee counterparts throughout the world.

The Buduburam Refugee Camp School, located at the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Gomoa, Ghana-West Africa currently has about 2000 refugee students. It was established in 1990 by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to address the educational needs of thousands of Liberian refugees who had escaped the civil war in their home country. The school lacks basic facilities such as a computer laboratory, library, and adequate infrastructure and will benefit from this RESPECT - One World Youth Project collaboration.

"We are so happy to be including the school of the Buduburam Refugee Camp in One World Youth Project! And, we are excited to connect your group with a sister-school!" writes Jessica Rimington the founder of project in an email to RESPECT International's coordinator, Marc Schaeffer.

The program year will officially kick off this October.

"We look forward to a year full of cultural exchange! I will be mailing you the One World Youth Project Teacher's Manual in early September. The program year officially kicks off in October. But, you will receive information on your sister-school within the next few weeks!" Jessica adds.
